I am here but, I wish to be somewhere else.
The only problem is, I don't know where I want to be.
I only know that I need to be in another place.
What do I do?
Do I just relax and enjoy the present moment and trust that my true path will unfold naturally?
Or should I actively look for opportunities and do all I can to create a situation that will help me to find what I'm looking for?
Help!!
This is indeed a puzzle.
You fundamentally feel that something is missing in your life and that you should be somewhere else, but you don't know where.
If this is how you feel then you need to stop whatever it is that you are doing and take some time out.
You need to allow for and create space for your new path to arise.
Think of it in the same way as if you were driving somewhere and you realised you were lost and had taken the wrong turning some time ago.
You don't just keep driving and hope for the best, you pull over and take a good look at the map. You stop and assess the situation. You try and discover where you are right now and then look at where you want to be. You think about how to get back on the right track.
You may say to yourself, how is it possible for me to just stop what I'm doing? I have commitments and obligations. I have bills to pay. I have people who rely on me.
Of course it's one thing for me to suggest what you could do, and quite another for you to actually make it possible.
However as with anything worthwhile in this life, there is often the need for effort.
Think of it in the same way as booking a holiday. You make the commitment first, then make the plans, and then you are rewarded.
You are rewarded with the joy of anticipation, and then again with the actual experience of the holiday.
And more often than not you will say to yourself, why did I leave it so long?
I should have had a holiday ages ago.
You feel the benefit of the holiday very quickly and are refreshed and ready to get back to your normal day to day life.
Well in this case we are not just talking about a one or two week holiday, we're talking about the rest of your life.
Surely this deserves a lot more effort and time and consideration.
Give yourself the respect you deserve.
Don't just amble along in life like a piece of drift wood.
Stop and take charge.
Clearly make a choice about how you want your life to be.
"You may well ask yourself, How did I get here?"
( David Byrne )
The real question is, is this where you want to be?
Or do you want to be somewhere else?
And if you want to be somewhere else, then what are you going to do about it?
The Inward Journey is so much more important
than the Outward Journey.
When I talk of being Somewhere Else, I don't mean physically being somewhere else, although that may become the case. I really mean in terms of the way we are thinking and where our spirit lies.
Ideally we must change the way we think about our life and life itself.
We must assess our connection with our true self and with nature.
Let go of the feeling of being some kind of automaton, with a number of tasks that need to be completed each day. We are far more than that.
We are Human Beings, not Human Doings.
Not only must we learn how to reconnect with Nature, we must understand that we are Nature.
We tend to think of ourselves as being superior in some way and
that we are here on this earth for some greater purpose.
By thinking this way we are immediately separating ourselves from Nature, from this beautiful amazing planet and all that is created upon it.
When we truly understand that we are not separate from, but are absolutely connected to this miraculous earth, then we are no longer Somewhere Else.
And when we reconnect with Nature, we reconnect with our own true Nature and with Life itself.
We are found.
As with pulling over into a lay-by to look at the map, we can't possibly work out how to get to where we want to be unless we first know where we are right now.
This is one of the most common misunderstandings that man perpetuates from generation to generation.
First of all, create an opportunity to find your true self.
Give yourself the time and the space, and the respect you so deserve.
Until you do this, wherever you go and whatever you do, you will continue to be lost.
Here follows the chorus of "Amazing Grace",
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
When you are found then you will know what needs to be done,
and you will no longer be Somewhere Else.
